For the May 'Korean Culture Day', Korean Cultural Center, Los Angeles(KCCLA) and Kelly Che and the Chestondi Project is hosting 'Searching for Sori' on both Thursdays, May 28th and June 18th, 2020 at YouTube KCCLA.
This online jazz performance titled 'Searching for Sori' will feature Korean folk songs in a jazz style. During the Corona Virus pandemic period in the U.S., all the 2020 Korean Culture Day events will be held virtually to ensure everyone's health and safety. The event was organized in the new platform of a performance that has recently been widely applied among musicians by playing music in their respective spaces, editing and producing videos.
The concert was organized with members of Kelly Che Band, a group of jazz musicians from various backgrounds in the LA area. These band members grew up listening to different music from various backgrounds, but now they are engaged in music activities by expanding the scope of various jazz bands, musicians, movies and TV.
The project will be performed in the genre of fusion jazz.
On May 28th, 'Five Hundred Years', a Korean folk song will be uploaded on the all KCCLA social media platforms. 'Five Hundred Years' is a song about a woman waiting for her beloved husband. Originally a ballad with a very slow tempo and a sad tune, the song is arranged into a traditional swing jazz with a medium up tempo and is presented as in a new mood.
On June 18th, the second song 'Sailor Song' another Korean folk song arranged in Latin Jazz will be featured. The beat of Latin jazz is usually four beats, but this song is divided into four beats of authentic Latin jazz and six/eight beats.
'Searching for Sori' will be introduced on the website of the Korean Cultural Center in Los Angeles(www.kccla.org), YouTube Channel, Facebook, Instagram, and Twitter.
