The Korean Cultural Center Los Angeles (Wijin Park, Director) presents a special K-Performance Series(7) Daechwita.

Daechwita is a military music performed when kings, noblemen, or military marches. The band consists of wind instruments and percussion instruments. Wind instruments that produce single notes such as nagak, which is made of a big conch shell, and nabal(long straight brass horn), as well as percussion instruments such as jing(large gong), jabara(small cymbals), and yonggo(drum) play central roles in the music. Taepyeongso plays the main melody. The music begins and ends with a rallying word from the deungchae, who is like conductor. The unrestrained melody played on the Taepyeongso together with authoritative sounds of the nagak and nabal as well as the sound provided by percussions come together in a stirring performance.

Daechwita was designated an Important Intangible Cultural Heritage in 1971.
