Traditionally Korean postpartum moms would recover with so much miyeok-guk (as Korean medicine believes that seaweed will clean the blood and produce more milk), literally a huge bowl for every meal for several weeks, it is no surprise Miyeok-guk is associated with birthdays.

Dried seaweed is the most shelf stable, affordable ingredient that anyone should have in their pantry!! Don't get it at high end grocery stores!! Check out Korean grocery stores for unbelievably affordable options. It will bloom like crazy, a few ounces would feed a family of 10!
