The Outreach program, in an effort to encourage and comfort Korean musicians, will be a virtual concert with Yoon Joo Hwang, a bassoon professor at the University of Central Florida, and Nora Lee Garcia, a flute professor at the University of Central Florida. The KCCLA and the University of Central Florida thank Professor Young-Jin Choe, Principal Bassoon for the Tokyo Philharmonic Orchestra, and Professor Min Chen, Principal Bassoon for the Shanghai Philharmonic Orchestra for making the lecture and concert a global event.
The KCCLA and the University of Central Florida hope that members of the audience will share what they have learned and be able to play familiar Korean music. Professor Hwang and Jeremy Umlauf, a student at the University of Central Florida Music Department, have arranged and will perform Arirang, Island Baby, and Magnolia, combining their understanding of Korean musical emotions with beautiful melodies.
Nora Garcia, a professor at the Flute College of Music, co-starred with Yonsei University and Sejong Wind Symphony in Korea, gave lectures at the invitation master class and Sookmyung Women's University, and is a professor and performer of Korean music. In this lecture, Sun Mi Ro's 'Three Invocations for Flute' flute solo and lecture will be performed.
Professors Young-jin Choe, Min Cheng, and Yoon Joo Hwang of the Tomo Basson Trio will perform 'Relativity,’ a piece composed by Alex Burtzos in 2020, as an example of a new method of composing music remotely using Zoom.
This lecture, hosted by Professor Hwang, is open to University of Central Florida students as well as anyone who has an interest in classical music. You can apply for this lecture series at the KCCLA website.
