The Korean Cultural Center Los Angeles (Director: Haedon Lee) will host “APEC 2025 Korea Cultural Night” on Tuesday, October 28, at 5:30 PM at Colburn School Zipper Hall to commemorate the APEC Summit in Gyeongju.

The APEC (Asia-Pacific Economic Cooperation) Summit, first held in Seattle in 1993, rotates annually among its member countries. In 2025, it will be hosted in Gyeongju, South Korea. This event is organized to celebrate the upcoming summit, wish for its successful hosting, and promote strong friendships among APEC member nations and their communities.

During the event, attendees can enjoy a variety of traditional performances from APEC member countries such as Indonesia, Malaysia, Mexico, Peru, and Thailand (7:00~8:30 PM). Prior to the performances, from 5:30~7:00 PM, cultural booths representing each country will be set up in the outdoor area of Zipper Hall, offering a rich variety of sights and experiences.

Performances by participating countries are as follows:


[Indonesia]

Balinese Traditional Dance Margapati

Performed by Angel Artha and the Krama Bali Dance Group, Margapati vividly brings Balinese myths and traditions to life. The intricate movements, rhythms, and colorful costumes invite the audience into the mystical world of Bali.

Contemporary Javanese Dance Kebyar

Led by Lisa Tepper and Sandra Kosasih of the Nusantara Dance Group, Kebyar is a modern interpretation of traditional Javanese dance. With its energetic movements and dynamic rhythms, the performance showcases the vitality and diversity of Javanese culture.


[Malaysia] Traditional Music and Dance

Malaysia will present a live performance on the traditional string instrument Sapeh from Sarawak, along with Tarian Payung (Umbrella Dance), a cultural fusion dance that modernizes traditional dances from Malaysia’s diverse ethnic groups in both East and West Malaysia. This dance symbolizes Malaysia’s journey from the innocence of its early independence to today’s vibrant, diverse, and tech-savvy society while still embracing its rich cultural roots and heritage.


[Thailand] -Traditional Music and Dance

The program begins with a live traditional music performance featuring Thailand’s indigenous instruments and melodies. Ram Sat Chatri follows, offering a glimpse into Thailand’s unique emotional and ceremonial beauty. The show concludes with the Dance of the Four Regions, highlighting the diverse cultures and dynamic dance styles of Northern, Central, Northeastern, and Southern Thailand.


[Peru] 'Afro-Peruvian Experience'

Led by Nadia Calmet, the Afro-Peruvian Experience blends traditional percussion, dynamic dance, and rich vocals to reinterpret Afro-Peruvian culture in a modern context. Audiences can experience Peru’s vibrant rhythms and cultural colors through this energetic performance.


[Mexico] Traditional Mexican Music 'Mariachi Divas'

The Grammy-winning female mariachi band, Mariachi Divas from Los Angeles, will represent Mexico. They will perform traditional mariachi music with a modern flair and exceptional musical skill, featuring lively rhythms, stunning vocals, and a mix of traditional and original compositions that showcase the richness of Mexican musical and cultural heritage.

[South Korea]

As the host country, South Korea will present various traditional art performances. Before the main program, cultural booths will offer visitors a variety of experiences, including promotion of APEC events, traditional crafts, tasting of Korean foods, and sample workshops, providing a rich cultural experience before the performances begin.
