(Classical) Gyeonggi Philharmonic Orchestra Masters Series I

[November 5 (Wed) 6:30 PM ? Classical Music with Commentary Gyeonggi Philharmonic Orchestra Masters Series I]
Running Time: 115 minutes

This program showcases pianist Sunwook Kim in his new role as Artistic Director of the Gyeonggi Philharmonic Orchestra, appointed in 2024. Featuring both familiar repertoire from the classical to the contemporary, as well as bold, challenging works, the series highlights the synergy between conductor and orchestra while opening new horizons for the Gyeonggi Philharmonic.

Since his career as a pianist, Kim has emphasized structural integrity and beauty that connect the beginning and end as an organic whole. He has designed this series to create a unified musical flow. This screening presents Wagner’s Lohengrin Act I Prelude, Liszt’s Piano Concerto No. 2 in A major, Op. 12, and Beethoven’s Symphony No. 3 “Eroica”, performed with Ukrainian pianist Vadym Kholodenko.

Before the screening, Kay Kyurim Rhie, Assistant Professor of Composition at UCLA, will provide commentary on the world of classical music.
