Black String is a South Korean quartet featuring geomungo (traditional Korean zither) virtuoso Yoon Jeong Heo, Jean Oh (electric guitar), Aram Lee (daegeum, yanggeum) and Min Wang Hwang (ajaeng, janggu) and they incorporate traditional Asian music, jazz, blues and rock, and electronica. It’s a powerful mix, bursting with all kinds of timbre possibilities, a context in which improvisation and traditional forms truly merge. As the band performs, amplified bursts of sound of the geomungo and Korean bamboo flutes, the fierce quake of Korean traditional percussion, and unpredictable melody of jazz guitar will grasp all of your senses.
