Online Taekwondo Story 101: DAY 1. Learning about fundamental attitude and training etiquettes in Taekwondo

The online Taekwondo story 101 class is an extension of “the Korea Contents Week: The Door to Serendipity” and celebrates the establishment of “California Taekwondo Day” every September 4th. To celebrate and recognize this special occasion, Korean Cultural Center, Los Angeles(KCCLA) created 10 series of Online Taekwondo Story 101 with the Cal (UC Berkeley) Taekwondo Black Belt members.


UC Martial Arts Program director, Dr. Russell Ahn, will share various insights and fun stories of Taekwondo history, Korean culture, Taekwondo philosophy, values of Olympic Taekwondo and globalization of Taekwondo. This project will also provide various training methods on basic taekwondo movements, stretching, Poomsae “form”, breaking skills and Kyorugi “sparring” drills through demonstrations by Cal Taekwondo. Therefore, audiences are not only learning about various stories of Taekwondo but also experiencing various techniques with Cal Taekwondo.


On September 4th, 1994, Taekwondo was adopted as an official Olympic Sport by the International Olympic Committee during 103rd Paris IOC Congress. Thus, we are celebrating this special day as “World Taekwondo Day” and it is the biggest Taekwondo festival throughout the world. Taekwondo is a martial art and one of the Olympic Core Sports demonstrating the spirit and wisdom of Koreans, and emphasizes manners and characteristics cultivated by training the body and mind. Now, it has become a global cultural heritage loved by people all around the world as it represents one of Korea’s brand contents.
